LOEB STADIUM (BASEBALL) Lafayette Jeff High School will begin play in the new Loeb Stadium in the spring of 2021. Loeb Stadium is located in Columbian Park and sits at the corner of Main Street and Wallace Avenue and is part of the 43 acre Columbian Park in the heart of the City of Lafayette. The Stadium is home to both Lafayette Jefferson High School and the Aviators. New construction began on the Stadium in August of 2019 and will include the following: 1,910 fixed lower level seats. 76 concourse table seats 243 linear feet, 1,900 square feet of lawn terrace seating. 218 linear feet, 2,250 square feet of outfield seating. 2 party deck areas, 500 square feet each. 3 outdoor suites that feature 28 seats, 32 seats, and 18 seats, respectively 3 indoor suites, that feature 20 seats each 2,000 square foot press box 1,700 square foot ticket/retail/office space 2 full service kitchens/concession stands Video scoreboard Parking will be available in three designated parking lots within the perimeter of Columbian Park. In addition, numerous parking spaces are available on the surrounding City streets outside of Columbian Park within a two block radius. Opened in 1940 as Columbian Park Recreational Center, Loeb Stadium had a capacity of 3,500 people.[1] From 1943 until 1945, the stadium hosted Spring Training for Major League Baseball’s Cleveland Indians when teams were forced to hold their training closer to their home cities due to restrictions in place as a result of the United States’ participation in World War II. At that time, the stadium was home to a Class A affiliate of the Indians. It also hosted the minor league Lafayette Red Sox, a founding franchise of the Midwest League in 1956. In 1957, the Red Sox moved to Waterloo, Iowa, and later to Lansing, Michigan, where they are known today as the Lansing Lugnuts. In amateur baseball, it was home to the Colt League Baseball World Series 48 out of 49 years (1969-1971 and 1973-2017) until the event moved to Marion, Ill., in 2018. Loeb has hosted the IHSAA baseball state finals four times, most recently in 2005. In 2015, the Jamestown Jammers moved to Lafayette and began play in the Prospect League as the Aviators.
