Lafayette Jefferson High School

This past season, Broncho boys soccer saw a new, yet familiar face take over the interim role as head coach. After Olegario Martinez stepped away from the program, Alex Igo stepped in quickly from the girls program, to help lead the Bronchos without question. Coach Igo is a Broncho through and through, having graduated from Lafayette Jefferson in 2011 and currently teaching at Sunnyside. His family truly bleeds the red and black, where his grandfather (Mike) was a teacher at Sunnyside and Lafayette Jeff. As well as his father (Kevin), who is the Departmental Specialist for science at Lafayette Jeff. Igo said, "LSC has always been my second home for me since I was a child, and once I started teaching and coaching here, I can see why someone in my family has been with LSC for the past 60 years". Coach Igo started his coaching career in 2011, coaching under, then coach, Scott McTagertt with the baseball program. As he progressed, former Boys Soccer Manager Eric Cupp approached Igo about becoming the goalkeeping coach prior to the 2016 season on the pitch. Igo stepped away from coaching entirely in 2023, but returned to the pitch in 2024 to help mold and support first year Coach Cassie Dispennett. His vision for the program is simple. Igo stated, "my vision for this team is to lead young men to achieve their goals, both on and off the field. Any on field success will be a byproduct of that pride and dedication the boys have to the game and themselves". Stemming from last season, what Coach Igo hopes to build upon is the trust he has built with the players that has gone both ways. He shared his excitement in saying, "I am beyond excited to get the chance to take over a program at Jeff...I look to make proud all the players and coaches who came before me by building Jeff into the soccer powerhouse I know we can be".
