At Thursday night’s IHSAA Regional meet, there was plenty to be excited about on the track. But the real action was outside the fence as two Richmond track athletes competed in the shot put to earn a place at next Saturday’s IHSAA State track meet. With only the top three spots earning a place at competition, Masson Heiny and Jacob Lindahl entered the ring expecting a dogfight. In the end, it was Heiny who placed second with a brand-new personal record throw of 56-2.75. Lindahl was right behind him with a new personal record of 53-7.5. The two pushed each other all year in practice and did so again at the Regional meet. For Heiny, this is his second trip to the State finals in a sport this year after qualifying for State in swim. Lindahl and Heiny will compete on Saturday, June 1st at the IHSAA State meet in the Robert C. Haugh Track and Field Complex on the Indiana University campus in Bloomington, Indiana. The shot put is scheduled to kick off at 3:30 PM.
