8th Grade Overtime Championship Game leads to Heartbreaking Second Place Finish in RRC

The 8th grade Lady Norse had a big task ahead of them Saturday morning as they first faced Lewis Cass in the semi-finals of the RRC tournament. The Lady Norse had only beaten them by single digits the first time these two teams met in regular season. The Norse came ready to play as they outscored the Lady Kings 31-11 in the first half. They also no turnovers in the first half as well. The Lady Norse made a season high of 11 three pointers in the game shooting over 38% from deep. The Norse ended up winning 40-26. Leading the way for the Norse was Avery Custer and Tenley Kuhn each with 10 points a piece. Custer also had 2 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 steals while Kuhn chipped in 2 rebounds, 2 steals, and 2 assists. Other stats for the Norse were: Kassidy Cartwright - 7 points, 6 rebounds, 2 steals, 2 assists, 1 block Miranda Meyer.- 6 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists Rae Delgado - 4 points, 8 rebounds, 1 steal Vivian Rife - 3 points, 1 rebound, 3 assists, 2 steals Bella Schultz - 10 rebounds, 1 assists Sheila Smith - 1 rebound The Lady Norse advanced to the championship game where they faced a very tall and big Rochester team. The Norse, starting 5 guards, did an excellent job containing their big posts down low. It was a very physical game and there was not a bigger lead than 4 points with either team. Going into the half it was tied 14-14. The Lady Norse battled back and forth with the Zebras forcing the game into overtime. It came down to the final seconds as the Zebras hit a heartbreaking shot in the paint with 3.6 seconds to go to win the game 37-35. Leading the way for the Norse was Miranda Meyer with 16 points, 3 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 steal. Followed Kassidy Cartwright with 6 points, 3 rebounds, 3 steals, 1 assist. Avery Custer had 5 points, 1 rebound, 1 assist, 1 steal. Bella Schultz chipped in 4points, 2 rebounds, 4 steals, 1 assist. Vivian Rife had 3 points, 2 rebounds, 1 assist. Tenley Kuhn had 1 point , 1 rebound, 3 assists, 1 steal. Rae Delgado had 1 rebound. The Lady Norse battled every game, as a very undersized team and shocked a lot of teams with their stellar 3 point shooting and their lock down defense. They concluded their incredible season 16-7.
