On Saturday, the Northfield Varsity Wrestling Team, a united force, sent six wrestlers to the Peru High Regionals. After a day of intense wrestling, the Norsemen emerged victorious, sending four wrestlers to the Allen County Memorial Semi-State, the most Semi-State Qualifiers in over five years. Senior Kameron Pratt (144lbs) and Sophomore Eli Gahl (150lbs) broke a 12-year bond, going 3-0 on the day winning their weight classes and crowning the Northfield's first Regional Champion since Joseph Ross in 2013. Records continued to fall, and Gahl continued his undefeated season with a 44-0 record season wins record! Pratt earned his 41st seasonal win, breaking the 40-season record held by Matt Holmes since 1998. Also punching their ticket to Semi-State, Freshman Cooper Good went 2-1, placing 3rd at 106lbs. Junior Brayden Rice earned his first trip to Semi-State, placing 4th at 126lbs. To cap off the day, Northfield finished in 3rd place, the highest in a decade, scoring 56 team points. Two Norsmen finished their Junior Season with excellent records. Tayten Barlow finished 38-4, and Isaac Stakeman finished 28-15. The Fort Wayne Semi-State hosts the top 224 wrestlers from Northeastern Indiana. Wrestlers must win their first two matches and place in the top four in their weight class to advance to the state tournament. The Semi-State is held at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum on Saturday, February 15th, with wrestling starting at 9:00 a.m.
