Northfield Girls Wrestling Shines at Rochester Wrestling Invitational

The Northfield High School girls wrestling team showcased an impressive performance at the Rochester Wrestling Invitational on Saturday. With several standout athletes competing across multiple weight classes, the team demonstrated both skill and determination throughout the tournament. Amarah Frieden, wrestling in the 135-pound category, had an outstanding day, finishing with a record of 3 wins and 1 loss, earning a second-place medal. Frieden dominated her early matches, showcasing her strength and technique. She won her opening bout against Violet Chapman from HOBA with a technical fall (15-0) in just two minutes. In the quarterfinals, she continued her winning streak, defeating Olivia Kidd of TWLA in 1:19. After a victory over Taitym Nevills in the semifinals, Frieden faced off against Naima Ghaffar in the championship round, where she ultimately finished as runner-up. At 190 pounds, Izabella Schultz also had an impressive run, ending the tournament with a 3-1 record and securing second place. Schultz’s day started strong with victories over Mackenzie Treasurer and Laila Moorer, showcasing her competitive spirit and tactical prowess. In the semifinals, she delivered a remarkable performance, winning in just 25 seconds against Emily Madinski. However, Schultz faced tough competition in the finals against Naomi Arroyo, resulting in a second-place finish. In the 125-pound weight class, Olia Leffert had a challenging tournament, finishing with 2 wins and 2 losses. Her journey included a significant opening-round victory over Ellie Hiner, but she ultimately fell in the consolation rounds, keeping her from advancing to the later stages of the competition. Emerson Zwiebel, in the 105-pound category, also showed resilience. Zwiebel earned a fourth-place finish with a 4-2 record, displaying skillful grappling and determination in her matches, though she fell short in the battle for third place against Adryana Hypes. On the other hand, Brielle Wells (130 lbs) and **Sheila Smith** (145 lbs) faced more formidable challenges throughout the day, finishing with limited wins but gaining valuable experience for their future matches. Overall, the Northfield girls' wrestling team demonstrated great tenacity and teamwork, making for a memorable event.
