Edgewood Football Defeats Mitchell 38-0 on Senior Night by Rachael Carey

The Edgewood Mustangs put together an impressive performance Friday night against the Mitchell Bluejackets with a decisive 38-0 shutout victory. The Mustangs dominated in every phase of the game, piling up 328 total yards of offense while holding Mitchell to just 132. Edgewood’s ground game proved unstoppable, racking up 223 rushing yards on 31 carries for an average of 7.1 yards per attempt, while the passing attack added 105 yards and two touchdowns. Junior quarterback Braylon Linerode (#18) led the charge through the air, going 7-for-11 with 100 yards and two touchdowns. In the backfield, junior running back Braxton Carpenter (#11) was nearly unstoppable, carrying the ball 19 times for 203 yards and two touchdowns. Senior receiver Reece Roberts (#4) also made his mark, turning his lone reception into a 26-yard touchdown. Gunnar Perry and Jaxton also scored touchdowns. On defense, senior Gunnar Perry (#10) recorded 3 tackles, while sophomore Tobias Connors (#26) and junior Lincoln Getts (#53) each had 3 tackles, 4 assists, and a sack. Special teams rounded out the strong performance with Kade Gilchrist of the Mustangs going a perfect 5-for-5 on extra points and hitting their lone 31 yard field goal attempt. He also had 5 touchbacks on kickoffs. With the 38-0 victory, the Mustangs move to 1-0 and carry strong momentum into next week’s matchup. Edgewood will travel to Rockport, Indiana, to take on South Spencer High School (0-1). Kickoff is at 7:30 EDT. Expect the Mustangs to be ready to bring the same energy and discipline as they look to secure another win on the road.
