EHS Boys Tennis Snaps 5-game Win Streak at BHSS

By John Kerr | Sep 27, 2024 10:21 AM

EHS lost to BHSS 1-4 last night at South. The lone victory came at 1 singles when Andrew Paul clawed back in a 3rd set tie-break to beat Caleb Lian 6-2, 4-6, (11-9). Andrew dropped the first two games then won the next 6 to take set one. Caleb then found a groove and took set 2. It looked like Caleb was going to roll through the tie break and was up 8-3, before Andrew slowly brought it back to even at 9-9. At 2 singles, Dane Weisner showed some true grit, not giving up any points to Abe Corry for free. He couldn't outlast Corry, but the effort he displayed was truly amazing. His set scores were 3-6, 5-7. This was the performance that he needed with sectionals around the corner. It was great to see a player dig deep like that, especially when going up against the 10th ranked team in the state. At 3 singles, Ryne Klinger played well, but wasn't able to get more than 2 games in the second set. He lost to William Liao 0-6, 2-6. At 1 doubles, Jaylin Luedemann and Austin Nunn gave a great effort, but couldn't string enough points together. The fell to David Ciuco and Alex Busch 0-6, 1-6. At 2 doubles, Cam Abel and Sammy Paul lost to Josh Sung and Connor Couch 0-6, 0-6. This was another match where we didn't play too poorly, we just weren't able to stay in points consistently. Overall, I'm proud of our team for how they played. South is the highest ranked opponent on our schedule and it is easy to go in nervous and make a lot of silly mistakes. That isn't what I saw. Instead, we did our best to play up and used the matches as a learning opportunity.
