In a game with dramatic swings of momentum, Edgewood was on top when it mattered most in an exciting 50 - 49 win over Linton in the first round of the Wabash Valley Classic in Terre Haute. The Mustangs started the game on a 10 - 0 run, then Linton found their footing and went on an 18 - 1 run to lead 18 - 11 midway through the 2nd quarter. Edgewood then cut the lead to 2 points at the half, only to fall behind again by 10 in the 3rd quarter. However, the Mustangs showed resilience, coming all the back to take the lead late in the 4th, and withstood two Miner field goal attempts in the final seconds to come away with the win. Caden Jones led a well-balanced Edgewood attack with 12 points, while AJ Norris and Reece Roberts added 11 points each, and Luke Druckrey chipped in with 9. Finally, Carter Hayden scored 6 points and Evan Jacobs had 1 to complete the scoring for the Mustangs. Roberts and Jones both grabbed 6 rebounds and Norris added 5, while Druckrey passed out 3 assists to lead those categories for Edgewood. The Mustangs will play again on Saturday at 1:00 PM in the quarterfinals against Martinsville.
