Kubacki and Slaughter Finalists for City Athlete of the Year

Congratulations to Kate Kubacki '25 and Devaughn Slaughter '25 on being named finalists for the City Athlete of the Year! Sponsored by Marion County Athletic Association, a male and female athlete will be selected for their outstanding athletic and academic achievements. 𝐊𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐊𝐮𝐛𝐚𝐜𝐤𝐢 Kubacki, an Oregon State track commit, has 11 letters in volleyball, cross country and track and field, earning All-City honors three times in track and field. Kubacki is a three-time City champion in the hurdles and an eight-time state finalist. She finished seventh as a junior at the state meet in the 300 hurdles after finishing fourth as a sophomore. She is a two-time all-state selection in track and field. Kubacki volunteered 100 hours of community service time. She is a member of the National Honor Society and has earned high academic honors in seven semesters. Kubacki is undecided on her college major. 𝐃𝐞𝐯𝐚𝐮𝐠𝐡𝐧 𝐒𝐥𝐚𝐮𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐞𝐫 Slaughter, a seven-time letterwinner in football and track and field at Cathedral, has plans to attend Tennessee State and play football in college. Slaughter was named the City football athlete of the year after catching 43 passes for 562 yards and six touchdowns as a senior. Over three seasons, he caught 102 passes for 996 yards and 13 TDs. Slaughter also passed for two TDs and averaged 32.5 yards on kickoff returns. In track and field, Slaughter is a three-time City champion and a five-time state qualifier as a sprinter. He ran on the 4x100 relay team as a junior that finished fourth in the state. Slaughter was Class 6A all-state in football and holds three state records in track.
