The Wabash Lady Apaches cross country team faced tough conditions at Sectional 6 hosted at Manchester, competing through strong winds that tested both endurance and focus. Despite the challenges, the Apaches showed resilience and determination from start to finish. Each runner pushed through the gusts with grit, maintaining steady pace and teamwork throughout the race. Their effort reflected the discipline and heart built over the course of the season. The Apaches demonstrated the toughness and unity that define their program — proving once again that no challenge can hold them back. Their strong finishes earned them a 6th place team finish, only 32 points away from qualifying as a team which is a large leap from the previous season. The girls team pulled away with 3 girls qualifying as individuals to race next Saturday at Regionals. First for the team was Mya Golliher who came in with a time of 21:30. Golliher snagged 24th place overall, but was the first qualifier from our team. The next Apache in was Mia Fairchild with a time of 21:33 and taking 25th place overall. Fairchild also snagged a spot to race again next Saturday at Regionals. Next up for the team was Mallory Tart coming in with a 23:26 time and taking 43rd place. Tart was the last of the trio to qualify individually for Regionals. Next up was Haylee Friend, with a career finishing time of 24:28 in 50th place. Zooming into the finish was Emma Cantrell with a career PR time of 25:29, and placing 57th overall. Completing the team score and finishing her last cross country season was Maya Howard with a season best time of 26:23 and taking 66th place overall. As a team, these young athletes placed well. As a family, they fought tooth and nail to have the race they deserved. It is a privilege to get to witness the tenacity this team has and will continue to have for years to come. They set off on this path together and today they finished to the best of their abilities in true Apache style. Be on the look out next Saturday for the 3 young ladies who will be competing at Regionals.
