The running Lady Apaches travelled Saturday morning to their Sectional #6 hosted at Manchester High School. The girls have prepared this week knowing that the challenges they face would be done together. United, the girls took off onto the course at a fast first mile, setting into the upper half of the pack from the start. As mile 2 progressed, the girls found their placement and began the battle of maintaining for the next half mile. With only a little over a half mile left by the downhill, the girls began to increase their paces to lead into a burst of speed for the finish. The girls each crossed the line with their hearts left out on the course. They pushed each other to give their all, never giving up in the face of adversity. Their actions led to a 7th place finish as a team, with over half of the girls qualifying for Regionals as individuals. For the first time, 4 Lady Apaches qualified! First for the team was sophomore, Mia Fairchild, being the first individual qualifier, with a career PR time of 21:20. Fairchild placed 27th overall. Next up was our team senior, Ivy Beamer, (our second regional qualifier) with a career PR time of 21:54 and placing 31st overall. Maya Howard, a junior, came in as the teams 3rd individual qualifier with her career PR time of 23:29. Howard placed 45th overall. Chasing down Howard was Mallory Tart, a sophomore and fourth regional qualifier, with a season best time of 23:30. Tart was 3 seconds away from her career PR and finished in as the 46th individual. Coming right behind her was a junior, Haylee Friend, who came in 49th place with a time of 23:40. Right behind her was Josie Bailey, a sophomore, in 55th place with a time of 24:36 and rounding out the Apache crew. The four qualifiers will be racing again next Saturday at Huntington North’s course! Details will be posted at a later date this week.
