Varsity vs Whitko High School (4 - 1) Win On Senior night for the Apache Netters, Wabash was able to overcome the Whitko Wildcats with a match score of 4-1. After the match, the team and families took time to enjoy a meal and recognize our lone senior Ashton Coffman. Ashton, who will be a 4 year letter winner, has worked to improve each year. He was a contributor for three years at both doubles positions and this year has been a solid player at 3 singles for the Apaches. Ashton hopes to attend BYU University and study business. Match Breakdown: At each of the singles positions the matches were quick and decisive with Wabash not surrendering a game and cruising to 6-0, 6-0 victories. The singles players for Wabash were at 1 singles Eli Mattern, 2 singles Cooper Long, and 3 singles Ashton Coffman. Competitive matches at both doubles positions kept the spectators engaged throughout the evening. At 1 doubles, Sheplar and Pence lost in two sets 4-6, 3-6 but showed much improvement in their movement leading to some very much improved shot making. At 2 dubs, Karson McKenzie and TJ Tracy secured a win with a game score of 6-2, 6-4 in what became a highly competitive match down the stretch. "I was happy to see TJ and Karson pull this one out. Both have improved in the past two weeks in relation to understanding the doubles game, and shot selection. This season has been a season of growth for both players." Coach Mattern Wabash finishes the TRC season 3-4 and now sits at 6-11 on the season. Wabash hosts the Wabash Invite Saturday (9/28) and one more non-conference match at home v Blackford on Monday. Sectional play to follow.
