For the first time since 1921 Wabash High School will be represented in 4 events at the boys state finals next week. Spencer Stout automatically qualified for the state finals in the 110 meter hurdles with a 2nd place finish and added another 2nd place finish in the 300 hurdles. This marks Spencers 3rd consecutive year advancing to the state finals. Coleson Kugler hit the time standard in the 100 and 200 meter dashes advancing to the state finals for the first time in his career. His time of 10.89 in the 100 meter dash and 21.89 in the 200 meter dash are both new school records breaking the previous records he set just last week. The 4x800 relay of Jonas Church, Drew Guenin-Hodson, Chase Howard and Ezra Church finished 9th with a season's best time of 8:18.05. Isaac Byers finished 7th in the discus with a new lifetime best throw of 143' 9". In the shot put he finished 12th. Jonas Church finished 8th in the 800 securing a point for the team. In the 1600 Ezra Church finished 15th In the 3200 Isaiah Cordes finished 11th and Kaden Vogel 12th. The 4x400 relay of Spencer Stout, Brett Shull, Drew Guenin-Hodson, and Coleson Kugler finished 15th. In all the Apaches finished in 8th place out of 34 scoring teams - the highest placing in decades, beating large schools like Snider High School and Carroll High School in the process. Homestead won the meet with a score of 72. This meet marks the end of both Kaden Vogel's and Isaac Byers' career with the Wabash High School track team. Both of these men have left lasting impressions that will live on in their teammates forever. As athletes they demonstrated how to compete to the best of their ability every time they stepped on the track on in the ring. As team captains they've shown compassion for their teammates, always willing to give advice or listen when someone has a problem. As a coach I could not be more proud of the men they have become. As this part of their journey concludes, another adventure awaits as they continue moving towards bigger and better things becoming the best version of themselves in the process. Kaden and Isaac - thank you both for the legacy you've left behind.
