Wabash Takes Win 4-1 Over Blackford Tennis Wabash traveled to Blackford on Thursday to face off with them on what was senior night for the Bruins. Wabash was able to overcome some inspired play by the Blackford team to take the match 4-1. Playing 1 singles for Wabash was Eli Mattern, winning 6-0, 6-3. At 2 singles Cooper Long won in straight sets as well with set scores of 6-0, 6-0. One doubles, featuring Grant Ford and Alex Dinkins made quick work of their match, winning in two sets, also with a score of 6-0, 6-0. Also winning 6-0, 6-0 was the two doubles team of Ashton Coffman and TJ Fritter. The match of the night was at 3 singles. Playing varsity singles for the first time, Spencer Stout played a 3 hour marathon match. Spencer and his opponent, sometimes having rallies as long as 25+ shots, played a 2 set and third set tie break thriller. Stout took set one with a score of 7-6. Set two was more of the same as each player attempted to hit one more shot in than their opponent. Blackford's Norton won that set 6-4. Moving to a tie breaker, Norton was able to outlast Stout to gain the point for the Bruins. Coach Mattern shared: "This was a great match for Spencer. He played well and worked to adapt his game to find a means to score points. Spencer is new to the game, a match like this makes him a better player." Wabash moves to 13-6 on the season.
