Second-Inning Spurt Lead Wabash Varsity Apaches Past Carroll

Wabash Varsity Apaches scored 10 runs in the second inning, which helped them defeat Carroll 14-0 on Friday. Sailors singled, scoring one run; McWhirt doubled, scoring three runs; Harris singled, scoring one run; Long singled, scoring two runs; and Reed homered to left field, scoring three runs. Wabash Varsity Apaches opened the scoring in the first after Sorg grounded out, scoring two runs. Wabash Varsity Apaches added to their early lead in the bottom of the third inning after Sorg homered to left field, and Miller walked, each scoring one run. Reed earned the win for Wabash Varsity Apaches. The right-handed pitcher surrendered three hits and zero runs over five innings, striking out five and walking one. Jamison took the loss for Carroll. The starting pitcher went one inning, giving up six runs (five earned) on three hits, striking out none and walking three. Wabash Varsity Apaches tallied 11 hits in the game. Harris and Cressell were a force together in the lineup, as they each collected two hits for Wabash Varsity Apaches. Reed went 1-for-3 at the plate and led the team with three runs batted in. Miller led Wabash Varsity Apaches with two walks. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, accumulating six walks for the game. Reed and Elzroth each stole multiple bases for Wabash Varsity Apaches. Wabash Varsity Apaches ran wild on the base paths, collecting seven stolen bases for the game. Kilty, Peters, and Tinsman each collected one hit for Carroll. Wabash Varsity Apaches will travel to Blackford for their next game on Saturday.
