Wabash High School

The Lady Apaches travelled south to a “new-to-them” invitational. The girls competed at the Brown County Eagle Classic. The girls participated in the varsity race, which was then divided into two classes. With 238 athletes running between the two divisions, the girls had plenty of drive to get through to the finish line. By the first mile, all of the girls were flying, taking into the woods at a speed that surprised even themselves. Working into the 2 mile, more hills and slopes were experienced but the girls pushed forward. Going into the home stretch, the running Apaches kicked into gear and crossed the finish line with season PRs across the mat. Overall, the girls efforts brought them a 4th place team finish in the class A division amongst 88 class A athletes. First for the lady Apaches was Calisen Kugler, a senior, with a 22:31 season best time and a 19th place finish. Next was our lone junior, Ivy Beamer, coming in with a 23:23 season best time and taking 27th place. Following Beamer was a freshman, Mallory Tart, with her career PR time of 23:36 and crossing the line in 31st place. Running into the chute next was Haylee Friend, a sophomore, in 37th place and a 24:20 time. Filling the gap was Mia Fairchild, a freshman, placing 50th overall with a career PR time of 24:51. Irma Robles, a senior, sprinted in right behind her with a time of 25:04 and taking 53rd place. Sophomore, Maya Howard, and freshman, Rinka Higuera, battled it out with a pack of runners into the finish line. With force, the girls pushed each other and ended up tying with a collective time of 25:25.2 and taking 61st/62nd place. Both girls had a season best time shared together. Not long after was our freshman, Josie Bailey, who came in with a season best time of 25:59 and finishing up for the running Apaches in 67th place. The Lady Apaches will be at it again next weekend at West Noble for the Chuck Schlemmer Memorial Invitational.
