The Lady Apaches stuck around in Wabash County this Saturday to run at the Manchester Invitational early in the morning. Having watched the boys race go by, the girls set their intentions on racing hard amongst their heavy competition. The team ran a speedy first mile, clumping together in a pack at the front. As the race progressed into mile 2, the packs began to separate. The girls continued to push through the heat that crept up throughout the race, finishing at the hottest point of the day with grit. Overall, the girls ran well with some even creating new seasonal PRs. As a team, the girls finished in 17th place overall. There were 159 runners total in the race. First for the lady Apaches was our team junior, Ivy Beamer, running in with a time of 23:46 and taking 78th place overall. Following Beamer was Haylee Friend, a sophomore, coming in 85th place overall with a time of 24:16 and leading a trio of Apaches. Next in was Mallory Tart, our first freshman, raced to the finish in 86th place and running a career PR time of 24:20. Right behind her was Calisen Kugler, our senior coming out of injury, with her first race of the season. Her time was 24:23 and placing 87th. Coming in after her was Maya Howard, a sophomore, racing in her season opener. Howard finished in 107th place and came in with a 25:30. Coming in after her was Rink Higuera, another one of our freshman. Higuera ran a career PR of 25:47 and snagged 111th place. Finishing up for the team was a (freshman) Mia Fairchild. Fairchild fought it out at the finish, truly sliding into the final stretch with a time of 26:29 and taking 123rd place. The lady Apaches will be at it again next weekend at Brown County to race for their first time!
