Otsego vs Three rivers opening match of the year. Always tough starting with a new young team going up against two teams that qualified for the state tourney last year. The boys lost 24 to 6. some high notes senior Cole Kortokrax shot a 174 game and first year bowler Carter Shattuck shot an impressive 212 game in his first match. Girls lost 29 to 1 with the only point coming from first year sophomore Canning Dobbs when she shot a 141 in her first ever match. Saturday conference match vs Plainwell opening day. Otsego girls fell behind 10 to 0 after baker games but rallied in the individual/team games portion to win the match 16 to 14. It literally came down to the last ball of the last frame to decide the match. Sophomore newcomer Channing Dobbs out dueled Plainwell senior Kassie Wannamaker 123 to 112 to take the final point and with Channing getting a huge spare in that last frame and an 8 count on final ball Otsego took totals by 7 pins to win the match. If she does not make that spare and get that last ball, Otsego would have lost 18 to 12. Boys side vs Plainwell Both sides struggled to get anything going but Plainwell boys also jumped out to a 10 to 0 lead after baker games Otsego battled back in the first individual/team game to win it 618 to 572 and take 8 out of 9 points to make the match 11 to 8 Plainwell. Second game started with Jayce Selby and Jacob Skibbe tying the first point and the next 4 bowlers splitting the points 2 and 2 but Otsego held on to take totals and the 2 bonus points for overall totals to win the match 16 1/2 to 13 1/2. Again both teams struggled to put up numbers as high score of the day was a 152 by senior captain Cole Kortokrax Otsego vs Niles last night was my favorite night yet as all bowlers got to bowl including all extra bowlers that did not make the varsity match for the night. Otsego had 14 girls and 9 boys bowl and Niles brought 6 girls and 16 boys. Niles girls won the varsity match 26.5 to 3.5 with Miley Kater throwing 166 game and 315 series for Niles and sophomore Channing Dobbs got her high game of the year in this first week of season with a 170 game to be high game of the night for all on the girls side. Senior Hailey Burd won her first point and tied her second game and Emma Gilson won one of her points to make up the 3.5 points for the bulldogs. Otsego Boys lost a heartbreaker 16 to 14. Otsego rallied to take both baker games to make it close and struggled in the regular games. Senior captain Cole Kortokrax shot a 195 in his last game to try and win the match for the bulldogs but fell 6 pins short on totals 732 to 726 to lose the critical 4 points that swayed the match to Niles.
