Jim Carey Early Bird Invitational Kicks Off Cross Country Season in Lawrence Lawrence, MI – The fall cross country season got off to a strong start with the Jim Carey Early Bird Invitational, hosted by Lawrence Public Schools on Friday August 15th in Lawrence, Michigan. Teams from across the region including Comstock, Delton-Kellogg, Hartford, Martin, and Eau Claire gathered to compete in the annual event, which has become a staple for area runners and continues to add teams each year. Competing for Lawrence were Adrian Valerio - 26:31 , Walter Waite - 34:31, Aurora McQueen - 29.09, for the Varsity and Rendyn Alfieri - 13:13 and Landon Marsh-Peek - 26:13 for the Jr. High. "Each year we start the season with just a few more kids than we did the year before. Then when school starts and the season gets started, we pick a few more here and there. That's a nice thing for our program. Coach Sturgis Head Coach Rodney K. Sturgis noted that the Early Bird Invitational is designed not just as a competition, but also as a chance for teams to measure progress and build momentum for the season ahead. “This meet is always a great way to see where we’re at,” said coach Sturgis. “Our runners pushed themselves, supported each other." Lawrence’s runners are looking forward to building on this performance as they prepare for upcoming meets. Next up for the Tigers is the Rust Buster Invitational in South Haven on August 27th at 5PM
