May 22nd 2025 Despite a chilly, windy, and rain-soaked evening at Angola High School, the Hamilton High School girls track and field team rose to the challenge at Wednesday night’s IHSAA Sectional meet, which had been postponed from Tuesday due to inclement weather. The Marines battled the elements and tough competition to deliver a standout performance highlighted by multiple personal records and an individual with a top-six finish. One of the evening’s biggest stories came from sophomore Annalise Lingo, who turned heads in the discus. Entering the meet seeded 15th, Lingo unleashed a massive personal best on her first throw, reaching 93 feet, 2 inches—an improvement of nearly 7 feet. The mark earned her a spot in the finals and a 6th place finish, scoring 3 points for Hamilton. She also competed in the shot put, recording a throw of 22-01.5. In the long jump pit, TeigAnn Freed delivered another highlight for the Marines, leaping to a new personal best of 15-02.5, nearly a foot farther than her previous record. Akira Geeraedts joined her in the event and also recorded a personal record, jumping 14-01. Geeraedts continued her strong night on the track, setting another PR in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:08.94. She also competed in the 100 and 200 meters, finishing in 14.18 and 29.35, respectively. Lilia Lavaure represented Hamilton in the 1600 meters, finishing with a solid time of 6:41.67. The Hamilton coaching staff expressed great pride in the team’s performance, praising the athletes for their perseverance and effort throughout the season. These girls worked hard all year, and to overcome the weather and set so many personal records at the end of the season speaks volumes about their determination and heart. This was the first time since 2022 that the girls track team has scored points in a sectional meet which is a great sign for the future of girls track at HCS! With Sectionals behind them, the Marines close the season on a high note, showcasing resilience, growth, and team spirit.
