Hamilton Junior High Turn in Strong Performance at Edon Track Meet

May 2nd 2025 EDON, OH – The Hamilton Marines junior high track teams turned in a strong showing on Wednesday evening when they traveled to Edon for a five-team meet. The girls’ squad captured second place overall with 95 points, while the boys’ team also claimed the runner-up spot with 65 points. Edon took first in both divisions, with 115 points for the girls and 127 for the boys. The Lady Marines had a big night, highlighted by several first-place finishes. Gianna Ceci led the way in the field events, winning the discus with a throw of 64-01.25, while teammate Sloan Hurraw placed second in the shot put (25-04) and third in the discus (50-11.50). Heidi Richter added another first-place finish in the high jump, clearing 4-04, and Bailey Bartrom scored points with a fifth-place finish in the long jump (11-05.00). On the track, Lydia Hicks dominated the hurdles, winning the 100 hurdles in 19.03 and the 200 hurdles in 36.42. Piper DePriest placed second behind Hicks in both hurdle events with times of 19.85 and 36.99, respectively. In the sprints, Lydia Szeman placed fourth in the 100 (16.07), and DePriest grabbed a second-place finish in the 200 (32.96) with Brookelynn Hart taking fourth (33.11). In the distance races, Hart won the mile with a time of 7:12.80, followed closely by Richter in second at 7:30.2. Chloe Baysinger added points in the 800 with a third-place finish (3:28). Ceci also took third in the 400 (1:16). The 4x400 relay team capped off a strong meet with a first-place finish, clocking in at 5:23.88. The Hamilton boys put together an impressive night as well, finishing second with several top performances. Abbott Lingo placed fourth in the long jump (14-05.05) and captured a win in the high jump at 4-10. Kevin Lanning added points with a fifth-place finish in the discus (75-00.05). On the track, Ace Hill sprinted to a first-place finish in the 110 hurdles (19.34) and later won the 400 (1:01). In the distance races, Lucas Taylor continued his strong season with a win in the mile (5:28.81) and another victory in the 800 (2:43.99), while Marcus Sommers finished second in both the mile (6:06) and the 800 (2:44.63). Elliot Vaughn chipped in with a fourth-place finish in the 200 (32.73). To close out the meet, Hamilton’s 4x400 relay team delivered an impressive performance, taking first place with a time of 4:17.
