Record Breaking Day for JH Track

May 1st 2025 The Hamilton Marines junior high track team traveled to Garrett to compete in a tri-meet against the Garrett Railroaders and Central Noble Cougars. The boys battled hard, ultimately placing third with 35 team points. Central Noble claimed the team title with 61 points, while host Garrett finished second with 46. The 4x400 relay team of Lucas Taylor, Abbott Lingo, Marcus Sommers, and Ace Hill delivered a major highlight by running a school record-breaking time of 4:09.38, securing first place in the event. The previous record was set in 2004 with a time 4:11.40, which was the third time that track season they had broke the record. Lucas Taylor led the distance crew with a first-place finish in the mile, clocking a solid 5:25.54. Abbott Lingo was a multi-event force, winning the long jump (15-02.25) and high jump (5-00). He also competed in the 100m dash, running a time of 13.97, and was a key leg in the record-breaking relay. Ace Hill posted a 19.31 in the 110 hurdles and a 35.42 in the 200 hurdles, also contributing to the relay team. Marcus Sommers placed in the 800m with a time of 2:33.95, and added a solid 4-08 in the high jump. Kevin Lanning represented Hamilton in the throws, putting up marks of 25-07 in the shot put and 76-03 in the discus. On the girls side, the team put forth a strong effort in a competitive tri-meet against Central Noble and Garrett, ultimately placing third with 24 team points. Central Noble secured the win with 63 points, while Garrett followed in second with 50. Several Hamilton athletes delivered standout performances: Lydia Hicks had an outstanding day, claiming first place in the 100 hurdles with a time of 22.71. She also competed in the 200 hurdles (35.76) and long jump (10-11), contributing major points across multiple events. Piper DePriest also ran in the 100 hurdles, finishing close behind Hicks with a time of 22.77. Brookelynn Hart ran a strong 6:55.26 in the mile, showing great endurance. Gianna Ceci clocked a 1:17.00 in the 400 and added a 56-00 throw in the discus, showcasing her versatility. Lydia Szeman joined Hicks in the 200 hurdles, running a 37.21. Heidi Richter brought home a first-place finish in the high jump with a mark of 4-04, a key victory for the team. Sloan Hurraw competed in the shot put, recording a throw of 24-02.05, contributing to Hamilton’s field event strength. Both teams are back at it again Thursday night in Edon Ohio.
