Thursday January 16th 2025 In a highly anticipated batlle, the Lady Marines played host to Canterbury in a rematch from earlier this season in which Hamilton won at Canterbury in overtime. The Cavaliers came out playing with high energy scoring the game's first 6 points in transition. Bella Rivera scored the first Marine points of the game on a wide open layup from an underneath inbounds play to make it 2-6. The Cavs answered with 4 straight points but another very well executed inbounds play led to a TeigAnn Freed right wing three which she drained. Freed sunk another three this time from the left wing, followed by a steal and two free throw for Taryn Kintz to bring the score to 10-13 at the end of the first quarter. A physical defensive battle took place to start the second quarter but Bella knocked down a top of the key three to bring the Marines within 2 and followed that up by swishing a left wing three on the next possession, 16-15. Tristen Creager connected on a corner 3 to take back the lead 19-17. Back and forth free throw opportunities brought the score to 19-20 at the half in favor of the Cavs. The second half started with a Creager basket to regain the lead 21-20, followed by a Freed free throw. A 5-0 run put the Cavaliers up 22-25 with 5:20 left in the third quarter before a Coach Tadsen timeout to regroup. 3 more Cav points pushed the lead to 6 at 22-28 before a Rivera free throw stopped the 8-0 run. A deep Canterbury three was followed up by 2 free throws by Freed made the deficit 5 points. Canterbury ended the quarter with a few baskets to extend their lead to 27-39. A rough fourth quarter with Hamilton foul trouble allowed Canterbury to build on their lead and eventually close the game out with their first victory of the season by a final score of 36-55. Hamilton will be back in action next Monday at home vs. Dekalb JV at 6:00pm
