Saturday January 11th 2025 The boys varsity team traveled across the state to faceoff against a Hoosier Plains Conference foe in South Bend Trinity on Saturday. Zane Ritter got things going with an inside bucket against Trinity's physical 2-3 zone. Drew Merritt attacked the Titans aggressive defense forcing free throws where he went 1-2 bring the early score to 3-2 in favor of the Marines with over 3 minutes left in the opening quarter. Merritt scored on a great baseline cut leading to a wide open layup. The Titans answered with a few baskets of their own before the ending the quarter with the score at 5-10. The second quarter opened up with an inside out 3 for the Titans followed by a dribble pull up 3 from the wing for Merritt but a a couple quick baskets for Trinity forced a Hamilton timeout with the score 8 to 20 with 5:23 left in the first half. Jaggar Hurraw drove strong to the basket forcing the foul where he connected on the first of two out of the timeout but two easy baskets from Trinity pushed the deficit to 16. Xzaiver Schieber was able to spot up off a drive and knocked down a wide open kickout three with just under 2 minutes in the half. Hurraw was able to follow up a Marine miss and score on an easy putback and Holiday used the same scoring method just before the buzzer bring the halftime score to 16-31 in favor of Trinity. A rough start to the second half for the Marines as Trinity was able to go on an 8-0 run in the first four minutes. The Marines closed out the quarter with great defense including Ritter taking two charges and holding the Titans to just 5 points in the final half of the frame but the score was pushed to 16-44 entering the four quarter. Hurraws's free throws late in the fourth quarter got the Marines on the board for the second half but a hard played half by the Titans of Trinity brought the final score to 20-54. The Hamilton boys next game will be Tuesday January 14th as they take on Lakewood Park at Hamilton with JV starting at 6:00pm. The Marines have some exciting game promotions coming up starting with Cheer camp night will take place on January 24th, Homecoming Crowning on the 25th, and Senior Night and Youth Night on the 28th.
