Saturday January 11th 2025 The Hamilton Lady Marines were back in action for a Hoosier Plains Conference matchup against South Bend Trinity on Saturday afternoon. Tristen Creager scored the Marines first two points with a strong right handed drive to the basket for an easy layup to bring the score to 2-4 in favor of Trinity. The Titans full court on ball pressure caused some issues for Hamilton as early turnovers led to open looks for Trinity getting them out to a 2-9 lead early in the first quarter before a Coach Tadsen timeout. Creager once again scored an open look in transition with about 4 minutes left in the opening quarter, and followed that up with a 15 footer from the low wing to bring the game within 8 points at 6-14 to end the quarter. A defensive 2nd quarter took place by the Lady Marines which included holding the Titans to just 5 points and TeigAnn Freed sprinting back on defense to take a charge, however Hamilton went scoreless bringing the halftime score to 6-19. The Titans were able to break things open in the third quarter outscoring the Marines by 15, with Freed and Creager each scoring at the end of the quarter on open looks at the rim to make the score 10-36. Bella Rivera played through the contact and scored the basket and the foul to start the 4th, and followed that up with a deep 2 pointer to make the score 15-38 with 6:45 left in the game. With just under four minutes left Creager knocked down a three pointer, and Freed followed that up with a free throw to make the game 19-42. Marissa Mercer connected on 1-2 from the free throw line with just over 2 minutes to play, then sank a baseline 3 pointer. Creager connected on a layup and a free throw followed by a Mercer offensive putback, and then 3 more free throws but the SB Trinity lead proved to be too much with the final score being 31-44. The Hamilton girls next game is Thursday January 16th as they take on Canterbury in a rematch in which the Marines won in overtime earlier in the season.
