Saturday December 7th 2024 Your Hamilton Marines did not waste much time getting back in action, after a late triple header at home on Friday night, we traveled to Lakeland Christian Academy for another conference triple header. In the first game the Lady Marines got off to a slow start being outscored 3 to 21 in the first quarter. Tristen Creager scored the first basket for Hamilton knocking down a corner three. A competitive 2nd quarter for Hamilton including a late 3 pointer by TeigAnn Freed however the Cougars took a 32-13 lead into halftime. Marissa Mercer connected from deep and then again in the paint for 5 points in the third quarter but the Cougs were able to push the lead to 52-19. Mercer added another 3 in the 4th to bring the final score to Hamilton 25 and Lakeland Christian Academy 56. Mercer was the leading scorer for the Marines with 8 points while Creager and Freed each added in 7. The boys varsity team took a little time to get going against LCA's 2-3 zone falling behind 10-0 before Dylan Holiday made a 15 footer from the right elbow and then forcing a foul with 0.9 seconds left in the first and led to him sinking a free throw to bring the score to 3-11. A Clayton Spaw early layup and then a Jaggar Hurraw steal and score brought the game within six at 7-13 with 4:06 left in the second quarter. An an exchange of baskets kept things close before a couple easy buckets for the Cougs put them up 11. Andrew Merritt knocked down a huge three followed by Holiday putback then a banked three for Harry Richter cut the deficit down to just 5 at halftime 17-22. LCA came out of the half with a 13-0 run to go up 17-35 before a couple Hamilton baskets brough it to 26-37 heading into the final quarter. A low scoring quarter by both teams kept things neutral for most of the fourth quarter, before Lakeland Christian Academy was able to secure the the win for the Cougars 29-43. Leading scorers for the Marines were Richter with 7 points and Spaw and Merritt with 6 points each. In the JV boys game, Hamilton battled but eventually lost 43-20. Josh Sprague was the leading scorer with 9 points. Both varsity teams will be back at it on Wednesday and Friday both at Hamilton. Tuesday night Pansophia Academy comes to town for a varsity double header and on Friday Fremont's JV teams will be here. Friday night is also our Cheer Clinic night.
