May 22nd 2026 On a beautiful Thursday night at the Indiana High School Athletic Association Sectional hosted by East Noble High School, the Hamilton Marines boys track and field team battled against 13 talented teams filled with state-caliber athletes. The Marines finished 12th overall with 8.5 points, finishing ahead of Central Noble and Fremont in a highly competitive field. The night started in exciting fashion as the 4x800 relay team of Robert Schiek, Jace Bean, Lucas Taylor, and Marcus Sommers continued their historic season. The quartet knocked another five seconds off their own school record, placing 6th overall with a time of 8:42.65 to score three team points. This is the best finish in this event in school history. Junior Copper Farnham also had a strong evening in the pole vault, clearing a personal-best 10 feet to tie for 7th place and score 1.5 points for the Marines. Copper's scoring mark is the first time since 2007 a Marine score in pole vault. One of the biggest moments of the night came in the 3200 meter run, where junior Robert Schiek competed against three of the fastest runners in the state. Schiek delivered an incredible performance, cutting nearly 40 seconds off his previous best time. He broke the 10-minute barrier with a tremendous effort, becoming just the fourth athlete in school history to run under 10 minutes in the event and fastest time since 1977 as well as the fastest time for a junior at HCS. Schiek placed 5th overall, scored four points for the Marines, and later in the evening learned he had officially qualified for regionals. Robert is first distance runner to make the Regional since Todd Cool in the 800 in 1981. The accomplishment marks the first time since 2019 that a Hamilton boys track athlete has advanced to regionals. Schiek’s determination and performance were a major highlight of the night for the Marines program. The Marines scored in a running event for the first time since 2019, and first time since 2007 we scored in two running events. The Marines also saw numerous personal records throughout the meet: Gavin Clark — 11.98 in the 100 meter dash and 24.27 in the 200 meter dash Robert Schiek — 18-02 in the long jump Copper Farnham — 50.22 in the 300 hurdles Sam Lockwood — 1:01.64 in the 400 meter dash Magnus Hill — 57.20 in the 400 meter dash Daniel Rollins — 5:47.22 in the 1600 meter run Kevin Lanning — 86-03 in the discus Jace Bean — 2:07.17 in the 800 meter run Marcus Sommers — 2:14.65 in the 800 meter run Head Coach Andy Baker expressed how proud he was of the entire team for their effort, improvement, and competitiveness throughout the sectional meet. Robert Schiek will now continue his postseason journey next Thursday as he competes at the Warsaw Community High School Regional.
