May 9th 2026 The Hamilton Community Schools Hamilton Marines varsity boys and girls track teams traveled to Fort Wayne Friday night to compete in the Canterbury Invitational hosted by Canterbury School. The highlight of the night for the Marines came in the boys 4x800 relay where the team of RJ Schiek (Junior), Lucas Taylor (Freshman), Marcus Sommers (Freshman), and Jace Bean (Junior) not only captured first place, but also broke a school record in the process. The Marine quartet crossed the finish line in a winning time of 8:57.71, breaking the previous school record of 9:01.02 previously held by M. Slentz, S. McKean, M. Snyder, and L. Cintron. The performance marked the first time in school history the Marines broke the 9-minute barrier in the event. The Hamilton boys squad finished 2nd overall as a team with 51 points. Final boys team standings were: Elkhart Christian Academy – 95 Hamilton – 51 Fort Wayne Canterbury – 28 South Bend Career Academy – 27 Oak Farm Montessori – 4 Placing in the top three for the Marines on the boys side included: 800 Meters: Jace Bean – 1st place (2:11) 1600 Meters: RJ Schiek – 1st place (4:50) 3200 Meters: RJ Schiek – 1st place (10:47) 110 Hurdles: Abbott Lingo – 2nd place (19.56) 300 Hurdles: Abbott Lingo – 2nd place (48.55) and Copper Farnham – 3rd place (50.86) 4x800 Relay: 1st place (8:57.71) School Record High Jump: Abbott Lingo – 2nd place (5-04) Long Jump: RJ Schiek – 2nd place (17-06.5) and Abbott Lingo – 3rd place (17-04) On the girls side, the Lady Marines finished 4th overall with 31 points. Team standings were: Elkhart Christian Academy – 77 South Bend Career Academy – 48 Fort Wayne Canterbury – 42 Hamilton – 31 Oak Farm Montessori – 4 Top three finishers for the Lady Marines included: 100 Hurdles: Lydia Hicks – 2nd place (19.42) 4x100 Relay: 3rd place (55.82) 4x400 Relay: 3rd place (4:54) Shot Put: Lilli Dager – 2nd place (28-07.5) Discus: Lilli Dager – 1st place (80-03) High Jump: Heidi Richter – 2nd place (4-06) Long Jump: TeigAnn Freed – 1st place (14-04) Next up for the Marines is the Hoosier Plains Conference Meet on Saturday, May 16th at Bethany Christian Schools.
