May 2nd 2026 The Hamilton Marines varsity softball team delivered an unforgettable comeback victory on Saturday, defeating the Argos Dragons 17-16 in 9 innings in a true extra-inning thriller. Argos struck first, taking a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning. The Marines responded immediately in the bottom half, as Karly Nester came home on a passed ball and Tristen Creager scored on an RBI single from Haley Ellert, giving Hamilton a 2-1 edge. The Marines added two more runs in the third to extend their lead to 4-1. The momentum shifted in the middle innings, as Argos erupted for 7 runs in the fourth to take an 8-4 lead. The Dragons continued to build their advantage with another run in the fifth and two more in the seventh, pushing the score to 12-4 heading into Hamilton’s final at-bat. But the Marines weren’t done—not even close. In a dramatic seventh inning rally: Skye Allen doubled to score Kristie Kuhn Brenna Mercer drove in Marissa Mercer on a fielder’s choice Gianna Ceci singled home Allen Karly Nester added an RBI single to score Lesliee Steigerwald Tristen Creager delivered another RBI single Marissa Mercer drew a bases-loaded walk Allen came through again with a clutch single, bringing in Kuhn and Creager Just like that, Hamilton erased an 8-run deficit and tied the game 12-12. In the bottom of the 9th, the Marines completed the comeback in storybook fashion. Gianna Ceci stepped to the plate and delivered a clutch double, scoring Skye Allen for the walk-off victory. Down big late, the Marines never flinched, continuing to chip away until they found themselves celebrating one of the most exciting wins of the season.
