Girls JH Track Dominates as Boys and Girls Compete in Ohio

April 22nd 2026 The Hamilton Marines 5th–8th grade track teams hit the road Tuesday night, traveling into Ohio for a tri-meet against the Edon Bombers and Stryker Panthers—and it was a big night for the Lady Marines. The Hamilton girls team captured the meet title, showcasing depth and strong performances across nearly every event. Final team scores were Hamilton 74, Edon 47, and Stryker 15. Hamilton was led by multiple first-place finishes, including a dominant sprint performance from Mia Sawvel, who took 1st in both the 100 meters (14.86) and 200 meters (31.40). Neelamae Baker also had a strong showing, winning the 400 meters (1:12) and adding a 3rd-place finish in the 200 (33.73). In the distance events, Brookelynn Hart placed 1st in the 1600 (7:53) and 3rd in the 800 (3:17), while Chloe Baysinger followed closely with a 2nd-place finish in the 1600 (7:55). The hurdles were controlled by Piper DePriest, who swept both races with 1st place in the 100 hurdles (19.48) and 200 hurdles (37.83). Lydia Szeman contributed valuable points as well, placing in both hurdle events and the 100 dash. Field events were another strength for the Marines. Mia Weaver led the way with a 1st-place finish in shot put (28-09) and 2nd in discus (58-05), while Addie Lingo added a 3rd-place finish in discus (58-02). Piper DePriest also earned 1st in long jump (12-02), followed by Mia Sawvel in 2nd (11-08.5). Katelyn Mobley rounded out the field event scoring with a 2nd-place finish in high jump (3-04). The 4x100 relay team of Jaylynn Austin, Elizabeth Fraley, Alaysia Sitts, and Claire Vaughn added a 2nd-place finish (1:07) to cap off a strong team performance. On the boys side, the Marines competed hard but finished third in the team standings. Final scores were Edon 80, Stryker 34, and Hamilton 21. Leading the way for the boys was Mason Moughler, who placed 2nd in the 1600 meters (5:48), while Hawkins Richter added a 2nd-place finish in the 800 (2:48) and 3rd in the 1600 (6:14). Jhett Holden contributed with a 2nd-place finish in high jump (3-10) and 3rd in the 800 (3:07). In the sprints, Elliot Vaughn placed 3rd in the 200 meters (35.48). In the field events, Miles Moughler earned a strong 2nd-place finish in the long jump (14-11.05). The Marines will be back in action later this week, traveling to Angola on Thursday and Churubusco on Friday as they continue their season.
