December 16th 2025 The Hamilton Marines earned a well-deserved home victory on Monday night, defeating the Canterbury Cavaliers 40–28 in girls varsity basketball action. Hamilton controlled the game from the opening tip, taking a 7–6 lead after the first quarter before extending the margin with a strong defensive second quarter. The Marines outscored Canterbury 10–3 in the second and then delivered their best stretch of the night in the third quarter, pouring in 17 points to take firm control heading into the final frame. Senior Tristen Creager led all scorers with 11 points and was dominant on the glass, pulling down 14 rebounds (6 offensive, 8 defensive). Creager’s presence in the paint helped Hamilton win the rebounding battle and limit Canterbury’s second-chance opportunities. Senior TeigAnn Freed continued her strong all-around play, finishing with 7 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists, and an impressive 6 steals, creating havoc defensively and igniting the Marines in transition. Marissa Mercer added 6 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals, while Lydia Hicks chipped in 5 points, 2 rebounds and 2 assists. Hamilton also received contributions from freshman Lilli Dager, who scored 4 points, grabbed 5 rebounds and had 4 deflections. Brenna Mercer, knocked down a three-pointer and finished with 6 rebounds. Gianna Ceci had 2 points and 6 rebounds including 5 offensive. Heidi Richter added 2 points 3 rebounds and 2 steals, providing valuable minutes and energy off the bench. Defensively, the Marines were outstanding, forcing 19 Canterbury turnovers while recording 14 deflections and 12 steals as a team which lead to 20 points. Hamilton also won the rebounding battle 54–43, a key factor in the win. The victory moves Hamilton forward with momentum as the Marines continue to show growth on both ends of the floor. Last night's win was the second in a row for the Marines which is the first time winning back to back varsity games since January 24th 2017. Next up is the Cougar Shootout on Monday the 22nd and 23rd at Lakeland Christian Academy. Hamilton will take on LCA at 11:30am and St. Thomas More at 5:30pm on the 22nd.
