Fairfield Falcons Defeats Tippecanoe Valley Vikings On Back Of Clutch Display From Jones

Jones drove in seven runs on four hits to lead Fairfield Varsity Falcons past Tippecanoe Valley Varsity Vikings 17-12 on Saturday at Tippecanoe Valley High School. Jones singled in the third scoring two, doubled in the fourth scoring two, and singled in the sixth scoring two. Fairfield Varsity Falcons collected nine hits and Tippecanoe Valley Varsity Vikings had 15 in the high-scoring affair. Fairfield Varsity Falcons were the first to get on the board in the first when Jones grounded out, scoring one run. Tippecanoe Valley Varsity Vikings took the lead in the bottom of the first inning after Bussard homered to left field, and Costello singled, each scoring one run. Tippecanoe Valley Varsity Vikings added two runs in the second. Manns doubled to left field, making the score 4-1. Fairfield Varsity Falcons tied the game in the top of the third thanks to a single by Jones, and a double by Yoder. Tippecanoe Valley Varsity Vikings captured the lead, 7-4, in the bottom of the third after Shriver tripled down the right field line, Fairfield Varsity Falcons committed an error, and Bussard singled to center field, each scoring one run. Fairfield Varsity Falcons flipped the game on its head in the top of the fourth, scoring eight runs on four hits to take the lead, 12-7. The biggest blow in the inning was a double by Jones that drove in two. Tippecanoe Valley Varsity Vikings scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth on a home run to left field by Caudill. Park earned the win for Fairfield Varsity Falcons. The righty allowed nine hits and seven runs (four earned) over four innings, striking out two and walking one. Costello took the loss for Tippecanoe Valley Varsity Vikings. The reliever went one inning, giving up eight runs (five earned) on four hits, striking out none and walking seven. Bussard stepped in the circle first for Tippecanoe Valley Varsity Vikings. The right-handed pitcher allowed three hits and four runs (two earned) over three innings, striking out four and walking one. Mast appeared in relief for Fairfield Varsity Falcons. Park and Yoder each collected multiple hits for Fairfield Varsity Falcons. Fairfield Varsity Falcons had patience at the plate, piling up 15 walks for the game. Fought and Mast led the team with three walks each. Fairfield Varsity Falcons turned one double play in the game. Tippecanoe Valley Varsity Vikings tallied 15 hits in the game. Shriver went 4-for-5 at the plate to lead Tippecanoe Valley Varsity Vikings in hits. Manns, Gonzalez, Caudill, Costello, and Bussard each drove in two runs for Tippecanoe Valley Varsity Vikings. Shriver collected two hits for Tippecanoe Valley Varsity Vikings in five at bats.
