Fairfield Varsity Falcons Stymied By Mishawaka Varsity Cavemen

Fairfield Varsity Falcons couldn't keep up with Mishawaka Varsity Cavemen and fell 8-2 on Tuesday at Mishawaka High School. Fairfield Varsity Falcons opened the scoring in the first after Castetter singled, scoring two runs. In the bottom of the second inning, Mishawaka Varsity Cavemen went back into the lead after Meyer singled to the right side of the infield, Hacker tripled to left field, Francis grounded out, and Putz doubled, each scoring one run. Mishawaka Varsity Cavemen added to their early lead in the bottom of the third inning after Ginter tripled down the left field line, and Deeds hit a sacrifice fly, each scoring one run. Kuhnle earned the win for Mishawaka Varsity Cavemen. The hurler surrendered three hits and two runs (one earned) over five innings, striking out three and walking two. Huser took the loss for Fairfield Varsity Falcons. The right-handed pitcher went three innings, surrendering six runs on five hits, striking out two and walking two. Castetter drove the middle of the lineup, leading Fairfield Varsity Falcons with two runs batted in. The third baseman went 1-for-2 on the day. Castetter, Garber, and Miller each collected one hit for Fairfield Varsity Falcons. Number seven hitter, Hacker, showed the depth of Mishawaka Varsity Cavemen's lineup, by leading them with two hits in three at bats. Deeds and Hacker each drove in two runs for Mishawaka Varsity Cavemen. Deeds stole three bases. Mishawaka Varsity Cavemen stole five bases in the game. Mishawaka Varsity Cavemen turned one double play in the game. Fairfield Varsity Falcons play at home on Thursday against Prairie Heights Varsity Panthers in their next game.
