Lady Falcons Crowned NECC Champions; Boys Secure 8th Place in Track

ANGOLA, IN – The Fairfield High School track and field teams delivered a stellar performance at the 2026 NECC Championship Meet held at Angola High School on Friday, May 8th. The Lady Falcons soared to a first-place team finish, while the boys' team showcased depth and talent with several podium appearances. Girls Team Captures Conference TitleThe Fairfield girls dominated the field to secure the NECC team championship with a total of 107 points. The victory was fueled by several individual conference champions and consistent high-placing efforts across both track and field events. Sprints and Distance: Emma Walter led the charge on the track, winning the 100m Dash with a blistering time of 12.18 seconds. Lyla Dennis added points in the distance category, finishing 6th in the 1600m Run (5:41.47). Field Events: The Lady Falcons were particularly dominant in the field. Claira Foust claimed the conference title in the High Jump with a leap of 5' 5" and added a runner-up finish in the Long Jump with a mark of 16' 2". In the Pole Vault, Fairfield took the top two spots, with Shelby Miller winning the event (11' 0") followed closely by teammate Joya Holsopple in 2nd (10' 6"). Madison Johnson also reached the podium with a 3rd-place finish in the Shot Put (36' 8.5"). Relays: The relay teams were instrumental in the team's victory, earning 2nd-place finishes in both the 4x100m Relay (Joya Holsopple, Juliana Hinkle, Shelby Miller, and Emma Walter) and the 4x800m Relay (led by Lyla Dennis). Boys Team Battles to 8th PlaceThe Fairfield boys also turned in a competitive performance, finishing 8th overall in a deep conference field. The Falcons were highlighted by several top-three individual finishes. Top Track Finishers: Kahler Maust led the boys' track efforts with a runner-up finish in the 300m Hurdles (43.83s). Oakley Stichter secured 3rd place in the 400m Dash (54.50s) , while Hudson Bontrager placed 3rd in the 800m Run (2:11.93). Field Highlights: Casen Custer earned a 3rd-place finish in the Pole Vault, clearing 12' 6". Waylon Herschberger tied for 5th in the High Jump (5' 10"), and Dylan Titterington powered his way to 3rd place in the Discus (121' 7"). Depth and Relays: Jasper Draper contributed with a 6th-place finish in the 100m Dash (11.94s). In distance events, Bentley Smythe and Carson Correll placed 6th and 8th, respectively, in the 1600m Run. The 4x400m Relay team (Reese Miller, Kahler Maust, Oakley Stichter, and Israel Moreno) also secured a 6th-place finish (3:36.40).
