Copen’s Clutch Hitting Propels Fairfield Varsity Falcons To Victory Over Fremont

Copen drove in four runs on four hits to lead Fairfield Varsity Falcons past Fremont 19-7 on Thursday. Copen doubled in the seventh scoring two, singled in the first scoring one, and hit a solo home run to center field in the fourth scoring one. Fairfield Varsity Falcons opened the scoring in the top of the first thanks to two singles. Fairfield Varsity Falcons first got on the board when Copen singled, scoring one run. Fairfield Varsity Falcons added one run in the second after Ross grounded out. Fremont tied the game in the bottom of the second thanks to a single by Kaiser, an error, and a single by Snyder. Fairfield Varsity Falcons took the lead in the top of the third. Mast doubled, scoring two runs, to give Fairfield Varsity Falcons the upper hand, 6-4. Seven more Fairfield Varsity Falcons runs crossed the plate in the fourth inning to extend the lead to 13-4. Spencer doubled, scoring one run, Jones homered to center field, scoring two runs, Copen hit a solo home run to center field, Mast doubled, scoring two runs, and an error scored one run. Fairfield Varsity Falcons scored six runs on six hits in the top of the seventh inning. Copen doubled, scoring two runs, Fought singled, scoring two runs, an error scored one run, and Cripe grounded out, scoring one run. Mast earned the win for Fairfield Varsity Falcons. The southpaw surrendered 12 hits and seven runs (four earned) over six innings, striking out two and walking three. Creager took the loss for Fremont. The hurler went five innings, giving up 13 runs (12 earned) on 16 hits, striking out none and walking one. Park pitched one inning of no-run ball for Fairfield Varsity Falcons in relief.
