Fairfield Varsity Falcons Loses Despite Out Hitting Lakeland Varsity Lakers

Fairfield Varsity Falcons fell 8-6 to Lakeland Varsity Lakers on Thursday at Fairfield Jr. / Sr. High School despite out-hitting them 11 to nine. Garber led Fairfield Varsity Falcons with four hits. Garber collected four hits in four at bats in the loss. Garber singled in the sixth inning, singled in the first inning, singled in the third inning, and singled in the fifth inning. A ground out by Miller put Fairfield Varsity Falcons on the board in the bottom of the first. Huser singled down the left field line, which helped Fairfield Varsity Falcons tie the game at five in the bottom of the fifth. In the top of the sixth, Lakeland Varsity Lakers broke up the tie when Bateman grounded out, scoring one run. Then a sacrifice fly by Cook followed to extend the lead to 7-5. Cook earned the win for Lakeland Varsity Lakers. The reliever surrendered three hits and one run (zero earned) over two and two-thirds innings, striking out three and walking one. Garber took the loss for Fairfield Varsity Falcons. The hurler went two and one-third innings, giving up four runs (zero earned) on four hits, striking out two and walking one.
