The Lady Trojan Flag Football team hosted Michigan City on “Senior Night” Wednesday, with many of those seniors contributing significantly in the game. Missed opportunities had Chesterton trailing 14-0 early on. Fortunes changed for the Trojans on their third offensive drive of the night, as senior quarterback Izzy Harvey hit fellow senior Taylor Mayle for a 20 yard touchdown pass to cap off an 11 play drive. Midway through the first half, Isabelle Kish snagged the first Trojan interception of the season. Later on, Senior Harper Russell recorded the squad’s first sack of the season. With time winding down before halftime, Harvey and Mayle connected again for their second touchdown of the night, with freshman Ceci Christ converting the point after. The Trojans found themselves trailing 20-13 with just under 2 minutes remaining in the game. Izzy Harvey executed the two minute drill to perfection, tossing her third touchdown of the night to freshman Matilda Pagels. Down by a point with 8 seconds to go, the team decided to play to win, not play to not lose, opting to go for 2, but ultimately couldn’t convert and fell just short of victory 20-19. Harvey finished the night 16/31 with 161 passing yards to go with her three touchdown passes. Taylor Mayle hauled in 6 catches for 64 yards to go with her two scores. Senior Annebell Haas had two catches for 37 yards. Lexi Gano had 4 catches for 12 yards, and freshman Annika Jendrzejczyk snagged her first catch of the season for a whopping 29 yards. Defensively it was the seniors leading the way, with Mady Clark pulling a team high 6 flags and a pass defended. Annebell Haas pulled 5 flags and defended a pass. Natalie Hargarten pulled 3 flags and defended a pass, and Maddy Vickers also had 3 flags pulled. Lexi Gano pulled a pair of flags and defended a pass. Julia Mobley and Matilda Pagels each pulled one flag. Aubrey Lorenz and Asia McClelland each contributed a pass defended.
