The Chesterton Girls Track & Field team turned in an impressive performance at the Chesterton Sectional on Tuesday, qualifying numerous athletes and relays for next week’s Portage Regional as the Lady Trojans continue their pursuit of a spot at the IHSAA State Track and Field Meet. Leading the way for Chesterton was senior sprinter Kenedi Bradley, who delivered a dominant performance by capturing sectional championships in both the 100-meter dash (setting the sectional record) and 200-meter dash. Bradley raced to a winning time of 12.02 in the 100 meters and followed it up with another title in the 200 meters in 25.02, securing automatic regional qualification in both events. In the sprints, sophomore Allie Anderson added valuable points with fifth-place finishes in both the 100 and 200 meters, while senior Gretta McCrovitz punched her ticket to regional in the 400-meter dash after a runner-up finish in 1:00.18. Sophomore Daisha Lewis also placed fifth in a competitive 400-meter field. Chesterton found success in the middle-distance races as sophomore Hannah Haring automatically qualified in the 800-meter run with a second-place finish in 2:20.51, while sophomore Taylor Kisic added a strong fifth-place effort. The distance crew continued to shine in the 1600 meters, where sophomore Paige Clancy earned an automatic regional berth with a third-place finish in a tightly contested race, crossing the line in 5:20.88. Freshman Evie Fortney narrowly missed automatic qualification but turned in an impressive fourth-place finish. In the 3200 meters, sophomore Natalie White secured a runner-up finish in 11:22.34 to advance, while junior Natascha Lepinasse placed fourth. The Lady Trojans also excelled in the hurdles, with junior Harper Russell qualifying in the 100-meter hurdles after placing second in 16.30. Senior Lux Mountford finished fourth in the event and later added another fourth-place finish in the 300-meter hurdles, while junior Patricia Ozimek placed fifth in the 300 hurdles. In relay action, Chesterton earned automatic qualification in all three relays. The 4x100-meter relay team placed second in 48.48, the 4x400-meter relay secured runner-up honors in 4:06.05, and the 4x800-meter relay also advanced with a second-place finish in 9:43.89. The field events produced more regional qualifiers for the Trojans. Senior Aubrey Bamber advanced in the long jump after placing second with a leap of 16-7.25, while Claire Thomas qualified in the pole vault by clearing 9-6 for second place. Junior Alina Micchia earned a runner-up finish in discus with a throw of 97-9, while senior Tegan Werner narrowly missed automatic advancement in discus with a fifth-place finish but placed fourth in shot put.
