Chesterton Boys Track Celebrates Senior Night with DAC Sweep

The Chesterton boys track and field team celebrated Senior Night with an impressive performance Tuesday, defeating LaPorte 100-32 and Crown Point 73-59 to remain undefeated in the Duneland Athletic Conference. The Trojans were led by senior Nathan Vaughan, who won the 200-meter dash in 21.79 and captured the long jump with a mark of 21-9.75. Vaughan also helped lead both winning relay teams on the night. Junior Weston Moore won the 100-meter dash in 10.98 and added a runner-up finish in the 200-meter dash, while junior Jacob Moore placed second in the 100 and third in the 200. Freshman Ben Phillips won the 400-meter dash in 52.25. Senior William Roberson added a fourth-place finish in the 400 and also ran on Chesterton’s second-place 4x800 relay team. Senior Zarek Sierazy placed fourth in the 800-meter run. Chesterton’s distance squad delivered another strong showing. Junior Spencer Martin won the 1600-meter run in 4:24.65, followed by junior Ryan Nix in second. Senior Logan Booth finished fifth in the event. In the 3200-meter run, junior Nick Jakel claimed first, while senior Ray Hundt placed second. Hundt also ran on the runner-up 4x800 relay team. Senior Louis Raffin placed second in the 110-meter hurdles before winning the 300-meter hurdles in 39.80. Senior Cal Wisniewski added a second-place finish in the 300 hurdles. In the field events, senior Carlos Leon won the discus with a throw of 134-4 and added fourth in the shot put. Senior Maddox McKinney tied for fourth in the pole vault. Chesterton’s relay teams were dominant as Weston Moore, Louis Raffin, Cal Wisniewski, and Nathan Vaughan won the 4x100 relay in 41.78. The 4x400 relay team of Nathan Vaughan, Cal Wisniewski, Louis Raffin, and Ben Phillips also took first in 3:24.38. In the 4x800 relay, Max Redman, William Roberson, Ray Hundt, and Nathan Fernandez finished second. Chesterton Head Track and Coach Bryan Nallenweg said, "Tonight was a great final home meet for our 20 seniors. This has the chance to be one of the most decorated senior classes in Chesterton Track and Field history. I cannot say enough about what they have done, and continue to do, for this program. We are going to miss these guys, but we still have a lot of season left and many goals to accomplish.”
