The Trojans are hot! There's no better way to put it after they bested the Indians of Lake Central by a score of 13-5 at their place. With the Chesterton diamond still holding a little of the .90 inches of rain overnight the games were switched from home today away tomorrow to the opposite to get the conference games in. Troy Barrett would be entrusted with the pearl and immediately Cheese Town felt like a victory was likely. The lefty has no problem putting the whole town on his shoulders and carrying them all to notch another win for his school. Since it's not the size of the dog in the fight but the size of the fight in the dog Barrett ranks among the best pitchers to have pitched for the maroon and gold. Barrett belongs in the conversation when talking of past Trojan greats such as Mark Armstrong, drafted by Toronto, Joe and Chris Bend, Mark Gland, Jeff O'Conner, Paul Royko, Jerry Meyers, Matt Hogan, Luther Bowen and Austin Peterson who is currently rehabbing a strained tricep with the Cleveland Guardians to name a few. The dub gives the southpaw a perfect 6-0 record with a sub 1 era at .913 on the season which is half the number posted in the W column thus far for the Trojans. I could go on for several more paragraphs about this talented senior hurler but how about the other 14 boys on the roster deserving some love. Ethan Glassman being the standout in the first frame with a three-run triple that set the tone of the game. Glass drove a ball into a slight breeze to the track in left with the sacks packed scoring Eli McClelland(), Logan Chestovich, and Dylan Bradford() making it four to zero good guys after Barrett scored on a passed ball earlier in the frame. The score remained 4-0 until the fourth inning when the Trojans plated two with a McClelland ground out that brought Isaiah Prater() home and a Caden Hackett knock allowed Rob Czarniecki() to touch the dish. A leadoff walk to Oklahoma commit, P. Robinson proved costly as they always do, since Robinson would score on a Forystek single. After a double to Thuftedal Barrett() dug deep to fan Friesema and Brower to end the LC threat. The Trojans, who scored in five of seven innings, put up a run in the fifth when Prater muscled a dying quail to right, Czarniecki smoked a grounder through the middle and Barrett singled to left to drive in Prater bringing the Trojans lead to 6. Barrett, your Defensive Player of the Game recipient, whiffed two of his ten strikeouts in the fifth to keep the hosts in check in the home half. G Kirkland() scampered home with bases juiced in the sixth running the score to 8-1 Chesterton. Lake Central would get a few runs back in the sixth with a home run to right and a wild pitch out of the hand of John Knight(). With the lead dwindling away and now down to four, Chesterton tallied five runs in the seventh with the highlight being a three run double to deep center that scored Dylan Bradford, the birthday boy, Glassman and Nate Redman. The Indians made a large deficit seem closer than it was in the last at bat even though they only plated one run on a Robinson double and a couple batters who wore a Chestovich pitch. Czarniecki came in and emphatically slam the door on any thoughts of an Indian comeback.
