The Chesterton boys track and field team put together an impressive showing Saturday at the West Lafayette Relays, highlighted by strong performances in both the sprints and distance events. The Trojans made an early statement in the 4x200 relay, as Louis Raffin, Nathan Vaughan, Cal Wisniewski, and Weston Moore raced to a first-place finish in 1:26.90. The time not only secured the win, but broke a 24-year-old meet record and set a new school record. Chesterton followed that up with another headline performance in the 4x400 relay. The team of Ben Phillips, Louis Raffin, Cal Wisniewski, and Nathan Vaughan pulled away for the win in 3:17.74, breaking the meet record by four seconds while also topping their own school record. The mark currently stands as the fastest time in the state this season. The sprint medley relay team of Aiden Caldwell, Jacob Moore, Weston Moore, and Ben Phillips added another first-place finish, crossing in 1:35.34. On the distance side, the Trojans continued to deliver. The 4x800 relay team of Spencer Martin, William Roberson, Ryan Nix, and Zarek Sierazy held off the field to win in 8:16.48. The distance medley relay team of Ray Hundt, Spencer Martin, Zarek Sierazy, and Ryan Nix also captured first place, adding another win to Chesterton’s total. Individually, Nick Jakel led Chesterton in the 3200 meter run with a second-place finish in 9:53.80, while Ray Hundt placed sixth in 10:12.26. Louis Raffin also had a strong individual showing, finishing second in the 300 meter hurdles in 39.81, and was later named the meet’s MVP of the sprints. Chesterton added depth in other relays, with the 4x1600 team of Logan Booth, Aaron Pieters, Nolan Harrington, and Ryan Nix placing fifth. The 4x100 relay team of Chavez, Jacob Moore, Caldwell, and Blevins also contributed on the sprint side with an 8th place finish. In the field events, Nolan Huley placed eighth in the high jump, clearing 5-6. Ryan Baudler led the Trojans in the long jump with an eighth-place finish at 17-9, followed by Julian Blevins in ninth. In the pole vault, Maddox McKinney cleared 12-6 to place sixth, with Bryan Huseman finishing eighth. In the throws, Colin Kellogg placed sixth in the discus (129-3), while Malik Oueslati added an 11th-place finish. Carlos Leon took fifth in the shot put (47-5), and Tyler Nevious added an eighth-place finish. The meet opened up with the 1600 meter run, where Max Redman placed second in 4:50.93 and Nathan Fernandez finished fifth in 4:54.86. The Trojans are back in action Tuesday as they host Crown Point and LaPorte for Senior Night.
