The Chesterton Boys of Spring didn't let Mother Nature slow them down against DAC foe, LaPorte, yesterday in the afternoon game that turned into an evening affair. The moody lady put on an impressive lightning show and Trojan hitters supplied the thunder after the hour and a half delay that forced the cancellation of the State Park Little League night scheduled prior to the start of the contest. Hopefully some of the mini sluggers stuck around and got to witness the Trojan bats stay hot in the five-inning, ten run rule, victory. We're going to call this one the 'Trob and Roy' show having sported magic similar to Siegfried and Roy. 'Trob', aka Troy Barrett(W, 5IP, 4H, R, ER, BB, 7K) was the illusionist who fooled Slicer hitters with pitches that seemingly moved in all directions and changed speeds on its' way to the dish in mid-flight. Roy, aka Rob Czarniecki(3-4, 2R, 3RBI, HR), made one ball disappear after cutting another in half in an earlier AB. The Slicer's went quickly in the first after Cam Campbell made a sliding catch in right and Barrett got two himself with two strikeouts leaving a runner on after a harmless seeing eye single to right. In the home half Czarniecki would bat twice in the frame and he used his 6.60 speed to reach on an infield single getting the merry-go-round started for the Trojans. Barrett singled sharply to center, Eli McClelland(2-3, 3R, BB, 2B) drew a walk on a 10 pitch battle to pack the sacks. Caden Hackett(2-2, 2RBI) would foul out near the home bullpen allowing Czarniecki to showcase his speed yet again as he tagged up and scored. G Kirkland(2-2, R, 2RBI, BB) followed with a free pass to once again load 'em up. John Knight(1-1, 2RBI, BB) got the ribbie after seeing eight pitches in his trip to the plate working a walk to score Barrett. After Ethan Glassman(0-3, K) went down on strikes Nate Redman(1-1, R, 2RBI, 2BB) picked him up with a stellar performance singling on the eighth pitch of the at bat driving in two. Nine-hole hitter, Isaiah Prater(1-2, R, BB) drew a base on balls turning the Trojan lineup over to Czarniecki who went down swinging ending the inning that he started. Barrett then promptly fanned two and induced a routine grounder to second in the visitors half of the second. Barrett and McClelland went back-to-back singles and Hackett moved the runners into scoring position for Kirkland with a sac bunt. Kirkland took advantage of the situation driving in both runners with a grounder through the left side making it 6-0 Trojans. LaPorte pushed a run across in the third on a single to left and a double to deep left center by C. Rusboldt who can straight up hit the baseball. Czarniecki roped a single to center the next frame but was part of a twin killing off the bat of Barrett who smoked a ball up the middle right at the second baseman who was covering the bag with Czarniecki running on the pitch for the tailer made double play. LaPorte managed one of the four scattered hits in the fourth but couldn't do any damage against the Trojan lefty. Chesterton would add to the lead in the fourth with a Hackett double and a Kirkland knock that set the table for Knights sac-fly to left that scored courtesy runner, Logan Chestovich, from third. The old proverbial nail in the coffin came in the fifth when Redman walked and Prater stroked a single to left putting two men on for Czarniecki looking for a Mo-town, Detroit style slice of magic. On a night with two-strike trickery by many Trojan stickmen, Czarniecki pulled one out of his hat with two strikes using his magic wand and made a high heater disappear beyond the left field wall for a three-run tater. With the Trojans now needing only one more run for the slaughter rule to take place McClelland leaned into an offering from the Slicer southpaw and deposited it on the warning track in left center for a double. Junior backstop Caden Hackett then hit a walk-off single to center plating "Chowder" putting this one in the books. Eight of the Trojans fourteen hits came with two strikes, including the Czarniecki jack. The Trojans look to continue their winning ways as they travel to LaPorte High School tonight for the series finale slated for 4:30. RECORD: DAC 5-0, OVERALL 10-3
