Cathedral lost to Cincinnati St. Xavier in high school football Friday night, 24-6, at the University of Indianapolis. It’s the second consecutive season that the Fighting Irish started the season with a win over Ben Davis followed by losses to Brownsburg and St. X. The Bombers remained undefeated, improving to 3-0 this season. St. Xavier jumped out to a 10-0 first quarter lead on Daniel Vollmer’s 1-yard scoring run and Owen Davidson’s 32-yard field goal. In the second period, St. X quarterback Jackson Frey added a 23-yard touchdown pass to Alex McClatchey. Van Krisiloff’s 25-yard field goal put Cathedral on the scoreboard in the closing seconds of the first half to narrow the margin to 17-3 at the intermission. Krisiloff tied his career long when he kicked a 46-yard field goal in the third quarter, but Frey responded with a 69-yard scoring strike to Aidan Newdigate with two minutes remaining in the period. Neither team scored in the fourth quarter. Cathedral’s Xavier Dangerfield rushed for 101 yards on 15 attempts for his fifth career 100-plus yard effort. Jimmy Pappas added 65 yards on 14 carries. For St. Xavier, Frey completed 13 of 22 passes for 206 yards. The Fighting Irish defense limited the Bombers to just 62 yards on the ground. Cathedral clashes next with rival Bishop Chatard this Friday at Butler University. The Trojans are undefeated following their week-three victory against Roncalli 33-11. The Irish defeated Chatard, 31-7, last season to take possession of the traveling Northside K of C Trophy and end the Trojans’ 24-game winning streak.
