The Indiana Football Coaches Association has the Fighting Irish ranked number one in this week’s Class 5A poll, while the Bulldogs top the IFCA 6A rankings and are rated 35th nationally by High School Football America. Cathedral opened the season last Friday with an 8-0 victory over Ben Davis. Senior running back Jimmy Pappas rushed for 101 yards in the victory, while the Irish defense intercepted four passes. Brownsburg defeated nationally rated Archbishop Spalding (Maryland) 36-23 in week one for its sixth consecutive win going back to last season’s title run. Junior quarterback Oscar Frye threw for 252 tards and two touchdowns. Junior receiver Branden Sharpe, who has college offers from both Indiana and Purdue, caught seven passes for 157 yards and both TDs. The Bulldogs beat the Fighting Irish 30-14 last season in a weather-delayed, two-day affair. Frye completed 11 of 15 passes for 206 yards and two scores. Brownsburg outgained the Cathedral in total offense by more than 200 yards – 460 for the Bulldogs to just 252 for the Irish. The Fighting Irish lead the all-time series 6-4 prevailing in all five postseason meetings between the two schools. The only regular season Irish victory came in 2021 at Brownsburg.
