Cathedral defeated previously unbeaten rival Bishop Chatard, 31-7, in high school football Friday night to gain possession of the traveling Northside K of C Trophy and end the Trojans’ 24-game winning streak. The Fighting Irish now lead the series between the two schools, 30-20, dating back to the first game the schools played in 1970. Cathedral scored on its first possession when Amari Moore ran 11 yards for a touchdown to end an 80-yard drive. In the opening seconds of the second quarter, Xavier Dangerfield spun his way across the goal line from 1-yard away to make the Irish lead 14-0. After Cathedral fumbled a punt and gave the Trojans the ball at the Irish 21-yard-line, Jack Harrington tossed an 11-yard TD pass to Julio Graves. Fighting Irish kicker Van Krisiloff’s 52-yard field goal attempt on the last play of the first half hit the crossbar and bounced back into the endzone, keeping the halftime score at 14-7. Krisiloff’s 23-yard field goal in the third quarter made the Irish lead 17-7. On the first play of the final period, Dangerfield sprinted eight yards for his second touchdown. Ollie Lewis' 8-yard rushing TD later in the quarter concluded the scoring. Dangerfield ran for 201 yards on 26 attempts to lead the Cathedral attack, which gained a season-best 439 total yards. Cam Koers completed 18 of 25 passes for 185 yards with Albren Johnson catching six passes and Devaughn Slaughter making five receptions. The Fighting Irish defense forced four turnovers and held the Trojans to just 74 rushing yards. Cathedral improves its record to 2-2 on the season. Next Friday, the Fighting Irish host North Central at Butler University for homecoming. The Panthers are winless following losses to Fishers, Hamilton Southeastern, Warren Central and Lawrence North.
