Cathedral lost to Brownsburg, 30-14, in high school football Saturday afternoon at Marian University. The game began Friday night, but with the Bulldogs leading 17-to-7 late in the first half, lightning was detected in the area and the contest was stopped shortly after 8 p.m. An hour later, the game was suspended and scheduled to resume the next day, along with dozens of other games in Central Indiana. On Friday, Brownsburg took the opening kickoff and marched 38 yards in eight plays, finishing its first drive with Will Orlando’s 33-yard field goal. On their next possession, Bulldogs’ quarterback Oscar Frye connected with Avin Robinson for a 28-yard touchdown pass. Early in the second quarter, Brady Lewis’ 5-yard TD run gave Brownsburg a 17-0 lead. Cathedral answered with a 4-play, 73-yard drive that included a 39-yard pass from Amari Moore to Devaughn Slaughter and a 23-yard scoring strike from Cameron Koers to Jackson Harvey. The game was halted with 2:16 remaining in the first half. When play resumed on Saturday, Brownsburg drove 84 yards in less than two minutes, scoring on a 1-yard Lewis run to make the score 24-7 at the intermission. The Fighting Irish started the second half on their own 20-yard line. Nearly six minutes and 15 plays later, Koers sneaked into the end zone from one yard out, closing the margin to 24-14. Frye tossed a 34-yard touchdown pass to Robinson on the next Bulldogs’ possession to conclude the scoring. Koers completed 14 of 27 passes for 131 yards. Harvey had four receptions for 93 yards. Xavier Dangerfield rushed for 40 yards on ten attempts. Kyle Harden led the Irish defense with nine tackles. Brownsburg outgained Cathedral 460 yards to 251 yards. The Bulldogs improve to 2-0 on the season, while the Fighting Irish fall to 1-1. Cathedral travels to Cincinnati Friday to face St. Xavier for the first time since the 2020 season. The Bombers are 1-1 following a week two victory over Centerville, 34-10.
