The Indiana Football Coaches Association has selected its 2023 all-state teams, choosing six Cathedral players for recognition. Seniors Danny O’Neil and Zach Meeks were named to the IFCA Top 50 All-State Team. Jackson Weingart, Oscar Kirch, and Billy Neal were selected for the Class 6A Senior All-State Team, and Jalen Bonds was chosen for the 6A Junior All-State Team. O’Neil is the most prolific quarterback in Cathedral history setting the school’s career records for most passing yards (7,881), touchdowns (99), completions (633) and attempts (1,014). Meeks caught 44 passes for 490 yards and nine touchdowns in 2023. The tight end ranks 13th in school history with 81 career receptions. Kirch led the Irish in tackles this season with 86. The inside linebacker also recorded five sacks and 13.5 tackles for loss. Weingart, a defensive end, had 36 tackles, 4.5 sacks, 12 tackles for loss, and two fumble recoveries. Neal captained an offensive line which blocked for a rushing attack that gained 2,200 yards and averaged 5.5 yards per attempt in 12 games this season. Bonds rushed for 1,190 yards and nine touchdowns in 2023. The first-year Irish running back ran for more than 100 yards in five games, including a career high 262-yard effort at Lawrence North in a sectional championship victory.
