The Irish improved their record to 8-3 with a sectional championship win, 20-3, at Lawrence North last week, while the Giants enter tonight’s contest with a 10-1 mark following a 53-0 victory at Pike last Friday. Cathedral is seeking its 22nd regional football title and a second-consecutive 6A semi-state berth. Ben Davis has won 20 regional crowns all-time and is vying for its fourth semi-state appearance in five seasons. The schools last played in the 2016 postseason with Ben Davis eliminating Cathedral, 51-21, in the regional round. The Giants hold a 15-6 lead in the all-time series between the two schools which began in 1955. Ben Davis has won the last 14 meetings after Cathedral prevailed in six of the first seven outings, last winning in 1987. The recently announced 2024 football schedule has the Irish and the Giants facing each other week one next year at Ben Davis. Previously, the two schools played to begin the regular season from 2001 to 2004 and 2011 to 2014.
