Fourth-rated Cathedral traveled to Lawrence North Friday night and defeated the Wildcats, 20-3, to win the school’s 27th sectional championship in football. The Fighting Irish defense limited LN to just three points and 120 yards of total offense, which is well below the Wildcats’ season averages of 31 points and 370 yards per game. Lawrence North scored first when Nicholas Kurowski kicked a 27-yard field goal with 3:26 remaining in the first quarter. Irish kicker Van Krisiloff evened the score early in the second quarter with a 25-yard field goal. On Cathedral’s next possession, Jalen Bonds ran 16 yards for a touchdown to put the Irish ahead 10-3. Krisiloff added a 21-yard field goal in the third period and Bonds scored his second touchdown on a 10-yard run in the final quarter to seal the victory. Bonds had the best game of his career, gaining 262 yards on 22 carries. He surpassed the 1,000-yard mark for the season with 1,124 rushing yards in 11 games. Cathedral’s Danny O’Neil completed 15 of 22 passes for 110 yards, while tight end Keith Long had eight receptions for 55 yards. Lawrence North’s Montez Jones completed 8 of 30 passing attempts for 94 yards. Cathedral (8-3) will host second-ranked Ben Davis (10-1) in the regional round of the tournament Friday at the University of Indianapolis. The Giants defeated Pike, 53-0, to win their sectional. The two teams last met in the 2016 Class 6A regional, which Ben Davis won 51-21.
